I found the breathing exercises really helpful personally. The visualization really helped as well - It was a great
way to end the day after hours of trekking - We all found it so helpful that we are looking into places which provide Tai Chi classes in Iran and will go and try them out.
The breathing not only helped me with my physical well-being during the climb (especially challenging above 4000m) it also helped calm my spirit as the challenges are numerous in such a challenging environment.
During the first week of September 2011, I had the privilege of being part of a group of 10 people from across the world who came together
to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. I had started Tai Chi in 2009 after suffering from burnout the year before. When I started training
for Kilimanjaro two months prior to the climb,
I doubled up on my Tai Chi training as recommended by my Tai Chi teacher Sifu Wing. Under his tutoring, I focused on different breathing techniques as I had suffered from panic attacks and shortness of breath before. Over the 8 week period, Sifu Wing taught me a number of different breathing exercises that proved to be critical to my successful summiting of the mountain. As we climbed, I realized that my friends in the group had not done any breathing training, and by the second day of the six day climb, we started doing the Tai Chi breathing exercises that I had been taught together. This is the feedback that I received from a few
of the group members.
“The breathing techniques not only helped maintain rhythm in my breathing but also relaxed me while also giving me a bit of energy back. Being in high altitude stresses your breathing and it’s hard to get the flow of breathing right while also being continuously moving, or tired from a long day of climbing/trekking. Breathing is a priority while trekking in high altitudes like Kilimanjaro, but breathing techniques is not seen as a focal point, until you stop and realize the role proper breathing plays. Doing breathing exercises helped me a
lot and I am still doing them back home.”
A few weeks ago I was looking around for a karate school for my 10 year old son. We found Yuishinkai Edenvale held by Sensei Wing. He is amazing and my son loves going to his lessons . Thier fees are reasonable. I would highly recommend them for anyone who is looking for an awesome Karate school.
